Bergère (armchair)
A bergère , (French, literally "shepherdess" ), is a French armchair . The seat, backrest and armrests are upholstered, but the wooden frame remains visible and is often lavishly decorated. The seat is provided with a matching, simply inserted seat cushion. A bergère serves as a comfortable, flexible and representative armchair in which you can sit upright.
The name was coined in 18th century Paris when the Bergère evolved from the chaise de commodité of the late 17th century.
