The late Gothic church construction goes back to the pre-Reformation period in 1480. The chronicler Ulrich Campell writes that the first church was built as early as 1325 after Lavins separated from the parish of Ardez . The brick slab roof on the bell tower dates from 1935.

The paintings in the choir were made around 1500. Pictures in a similar style can be found in the Sta. Maria in Pontresina and in San Gian in Celerina . They were uncovered again in 1955/56 and preserved under the direction of Franz Xaver Sauter after they had been covered up during the Reformation because of the ban on images . The wooden ceiling in the nave in the shape of a trapezoid was installed in 1956.

The Annunciation to Mary is depicted on the wall of the choir arch and God the Father sends down the baby Jesus marked with a cross; including several partly undetermined saints. Ten prophets are depicted in the soffit of the choir arch, on its inner wall and on the walls of the choir, among other things, the parable of the ten virgins and the martyrdom of St. George .

The coats of arms of the bishops Ortlieb von Brandis (r. 1458–1491) and Heinrich V. von Höwen (r. 1491–1505) can be found in the tips of the window reveals on the south side . The church was rebuilt under Ortlieb, and the painting was probably done under Heinrich.

The choir canopy is determined by an oversized depiction of Christ as the ruler of the world, whose head is depicted as a symbol of the Trinity. It can still be seen that originally a smaller figure with a simple head was intended. On both sides of the almond-shaped halo, from which the oversized bare feet protrude, are the symbols of the four evangelists, which are depicted in the vaulted caps next to the four church fathers on their desks.

The representation of the four elements next to the singing angels is unusual for a church interior: a flame for the fire, a dolphin for the water, a bubble-shaped breath for the air and the globe for the earth. The whole composition is dominated by the four: four elements, four evangelists, their four symbols, four church fathers - and in the middle the triune God.
