Berg is a former municipality in the former province ( Fylke ) Troms , today Troms og Finnmark , in Northern Norway . As part of the municipal reform in Norway on January 1, 2020, it was transferred to the newly created municipality of Senja , which, along with Berg, consists of the other former municipalities of Lenvik , Torsken and Tranøy .

Berg is located on the west side of Senja Island in the North Atlantic and includes the coastal settlements of Hamn, Finnsæter, Straumsbotn, Bergsbotn, Skaland, Bøvær, Steinfjord, Ersfjord, Senjahopen and Mefjordvær, which are connected by a coastal ring road. The main town and administrative seat was Skaland. Berg bordered Torsken municipality to the southeast, Tranøy to the south and Lenvik to the east.

The municipality of Berg was the first place in the world to have electric street lighting. In 1961, the Lutheran parish of Berg and Torsken became the first in Norway to be led by a pastor.

Like most municipalities in Northern Norway, Berg has seen a significant population decline in the last few years of its existence.
