Tranøy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tranøy ( Sami Ránáidsullo ) is a former municipality in the north Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Troms , today Troms og Finnmark . As part of the municipal reform in Norway, it was transferred to the newly created municipality of Senja .

The municipality is located on the south side of the island of Senja , on the north bank of the Tranøyfjord and the Solbergfjord , in the North Sea . The administrative seat was the place Vangsvik in the east of the former municipality; the other main town is Stonglandseid (Eid) at the foot of the Stongland peninsula in the west. The eponymous offshore island Tranøy is now uninhabited; the wooden church of his village is well worth seeing .
