Recovery bag

A retrieval bag with a spleen divided into smaller pieces , which is removed through an umbilical access.
A vermiform appendix ( appendix ) that is inserted into a retrieval bag in the abdominal cavity.

A rescue bag , also called a rescue bag or endobag ( ancient Greek ἔνδον endon , German 'inside' and English bag 'bag') is an aid in endoscopic surgery . It is mainly used to isolate, package and transport tissue parts from the patient's body to the outside through the endoscopic access.

description

Retrieval bags are used to prevent contamination of the corresponding body cavity with the removed tissue. In laparoscopy these are the peritoneal cavity and in thoracoscopy the chest cavity . For example, removed gall bladders , kidney stones , appendices vermiformis (“caecum”), cysts , benign or malignant tumors are introduced into the retrieval bag . Entire organs, such as the spleen, can also be removed from the inside of the body using a rescue bag. The retrieval bag is inserted into the corresponding body cavity via the trocar and the tissue to be removed is introduced. The bag is closed on site and transported to the outside via the trocar. There the tissue can, for example, be examined finely ( histologically ).

The term endobag has established itself in clinical practice . However, this is a registered trademark of mtp GmbH. At the beginning of the 1990s, the German doctor Udo Auweiler developed an improved rescue bag, which he applied for a patent on June 25, 1992 in Germany and later in other countries. Mtp GmbH has the license rights for this recovery bag.

Another provider of laparoscopic disposable mountains bags, the company Covidien , which developed by Autosuture Endo-Catch and Endobag offering.

The company Medi-Globe (sales in Germany by ASID BONZ) developed a self-opening rescue bag with the sales name ExBag and consists of a highly tear-resistant, liquid-tight plastic bag that opens automatically in the operating field and can be easily and safely closed and removed after filling.
