The Bergel rock is a rock in front of the Graham Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 6 m above sea level and is 1.4 km south of Quintana Island in the southwestern Wilhelm Archipelago .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it on November 3, 1971 after Alexandra Mary Swinford Shackleton (* 1940, married Bergel), granddaughter of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton or daughter of his son Edward Shackleton and sponsor of the research vessel HMS Endurance , which was launched in February 1969 was on the way to survey work in the waters around this rock.
