Bergen radio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bergen Radio ( callsign LGN) was a Norwegian coastal radio station . The station existed from 1912 to 2004. The systems were then taken over by Rogaland Radio .

The history of "Bergen Radio" is closely interwoven with historical, technical and political developments. The first location of the station was the "Rundemanan", one of the seven mountains that surround the city of Bergen . At 565 meters above sea level, the station was out of range of enemy artillery from the sea, but within the city's defenses at the time. From 1912 more than 20 employees worked in shifts, many of whom lived with their families and children right next to the station in complete isolation from the city of Bergen.
The first transmitter was a resounding 5 kW Telefunken extinguishing spark transmitter . This is now available for viewing in the Natural Science Museum in Oslo.
