Mountain church

The Bergkirche (formerly St. Peter ) is the church building of the evangelical mountain church community St. Peter in Worms-Hochheim .

The building history of the parish church probably began during the tenure of Bishop Burchard of Worms ; the oldest early Romanesque construction phases - the crypt and the lower floors of the tower - are dated around 1010. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1141.

The upper floors of the tower were added by 1200; the nave, a post-Gothic nave, dates from 1609; a fire in 1607 destroyed the previous building. The crypt is about 20 square meters; its cross vault is supported by four central pillars adorned with cube capitals .
