The mountain lake near Delliehausen is an approximately two hectare open-cast mine in the municipality of Uslar in the Northeim district in Lower Saxony . It is located in Solling in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park , immediately west of Delliehausen in the area of the Haje settlement.

History and description

Lignite and quartz sands have been mined in the area since 1888 . In 1911, the opencast mine was initially abandoned, but resumed briefly after the Second World War. In 1948 the Uslar lignite field was finally shut down. What remained was a pit about 300 meters long and 50 meters deep, which slowly filled up with water from the Mühlenrodbach and gave rise to today's lake.

The mountain lake has been designated as a natural monument since 1985 . It is not allowed to enter the lake with boats. An 800 m long circular path leads around the lake. There is a privately operated campsite on the east bank. On the north-west side there is an artificially created beach.

The mountain lake is not officially registered bathing water, but bathing is expressly allowed. There is no lifeguard.
