Architecture and history

The small house is unusually narrow with a width of only 5.40 meters and only two axes wide. Nevertheless, it is considered to be a defining feature of the street. The red brick building was built in 1893 by master mason Julius Kohtz in neo-Gothic forms as a tenement house with three apartments. Each apartment consisted of a living room with cooking facilities and two chambers. The facade of the house has windows designed as pointed arches and also pointed arched panels, which, however, are arranged at different heights on the left and right halves of the building. In addition, a stepped gable is indicated above the door . As further decorations there is a relay frieze above the right window on the first floor as well as an ogival blind arching, two blind ox eyes and friezes made of tooth cut and German ribbon . The staircase is on the left and emerges as a narrow tower-like risalit . Originally the risalit was crowned by a pyramid helmet, which has not been preserved. The purpose stated was the accommodation of “healthy and cheap workers' housing”.

The building is a testament to the historicizing neo-Gothic brick architecture of the Wilhelminian era . It also has social and urban historical significance as an example of the living conditions during the construction period.

In the local register of monuments , the system is listed as a monument under registration number 094 17977 .
