Bergstutzen (weapon)

Bergstutzen

A Bergstutzen is an over and under rifle with two ball barrels in different calibers. As a rule, the barrel with the greater gas pressure is at the bottom in order to reduce the load on the weapon. Other types are also common (see picture). For example, an over and under rifle shotgun becomes a mountain socket when an insert barrel is inserted into the shotgun barrel . Usually rim cartridges (for example from .22 lfB to 9.3 × 74 mm R ) are fired from these drop barrel rifles - rimless rifle cartridges such as the 7.92 × 57 mm or .30-06 Springfield can also be used with the appropriate equipment .

Due to the soldered barrels, if several shots are fired from one barrel, the hit position moves towards the colder barrel. Mountain sockets are therefore always shot in cold.

In the case of Bergstutzen, which are made up of an over-and-under rifle shotgun with a barrel in the shot barrel, there is no need to fear that the hits of the barrel will "wander": the barrel in the barrel is not able to heat the barrel and "bend" the barrel .
