Cartridges 9.3 x 74 R

The 9.3 × 74 mm R is a European rim cartridge for large game hunting that was introduced around 1900. It is sometimes referred to as the "queen of big game hunting" and is mainly used from double rifles and over and under rifles as well as triplets .

history

The history of the creation of the 9.3 × 74 mm R has not been fully clarified. The literature describes it as a synthesis of the caliber of the German 9.3 x 62 (bullet) with the case of the British .400 / 360 Nitro Express by Westley Richards and James Purdey & Sons around 1900. Also known as the big game cartridge no. 474a, it was considered the standard for hunting large game in the non-British colonies. “ The projectile effect is quite extraordinary and is sufficient against the heaviest game, elk, Cape buffalo and rhinoceros. African elephants have already been hunted down with a full coat . ”As a European cartridge with a GEE > 200 m, the 9.3 x 74 R is a good choice for driven hunts and raised hide.
