Lists on the subject

The 9.3 × 62 mm is a rifle cartridge developed for hunting in Africa and large game . With a bullet diameter of 9.3 mm, it has a case length of 62 mm.

development

The 9.3 × 62 mm was commissioned by German colonial officials from Berlin gunsmith Otto Bock for farmers in Africa at the beginning of the 20th century . The cartridge should be able to be fired from cheap rifles , i.e. normal systems, and still be suitable for hunting savannah game in Africa. Although it provides sufficient power for the hunt for the Big Five with suitable bullets , its use is not permitted in a few countries due to the minimum diameter of 9.5 mm, i.e. caliber .375, which dates from the time under British administration.

In Germany, the cartridge is experiencing a revival by their effectiveness in driven hunt and hunting wild boar . Because of its short case in relation to the caliber, it can be fired very well in short-barreled and light weapons. The recoil is moderate. The cartridge's weakness lies in its limited range. From 150 m the trajectory of the bullet drops sharply. The disadvantage can, however, be compensated for with modern lead tape bullets made of copper or brass.
