Berlin Gate (Templin)
The Berliner Tor in Templin is part of the former 1735 m long city wall .
Building description
The gate has richly structured gables and is equipped with blind niches on the side facing the city . Due to its military function, it was hardly decorated with jewelry during construction.
history
The gate was built in the second half of the 13th century together with the city wall and is connected to it via a guard and defense system above the gate passage. In 1860 the now ailing gate was renewed and converted into a granary. The roof was enlarged and fitted with a winch. It was now possible to load goods directly into newly created hatches on the northern side.
As part of the still completely preserved fortification, the gate is a listed building and in its current appearance reflects the structural condition in the first half of the 14th century .
The three floors of the gate are used as exhibition space.
