Bernard Lafayette
Bernard Lafayette (born July 29, 1940 in Tampa ) is an early companion of Martin Luther King .
Life
Lafayette was one of the main organizers of the voting rights campaign in Selma , Alabama . In 1998 he was the first director of the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies at the University of Rhode Island (URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies). In May 2012 he was named Doctor of Humane Letters by Mount Holyoke College.
