Bernard U. Taylor

Bernard Underhill Taylor (born January 8, 1897 in Olean , New York , † July 4, 1987 in New York City , New York) was an American music teacher .

Life

Taylor was a soldier in World War I before starting his musical career. He initially taught in Texas and entered the Juilliard School of Music in 1930, where he headed the vocal department until 1953. He was an early representative of group voice training and published a text book for this in 1936. He also compiled several anthologies of classical songs. From 1942 to 1944 he was President of the Singing Teachers' Association . He helped found the National Association of Teachers of Singing , of which he was president until 1955. Until shortly before his death, he gave private singing lessons in New York.
