Bernard Waley Cohen

Sir Bernard Nathaniel Waley-Cohen, 1st Baronet (born May 29, 1914 - † July 3, 1991 in Simonsbath , Somerset ) was Lord Mayor of London .

Bernard Waley Cohen was the son of the English-Jewish chemist of the Royal Dutch Shell Company, Sir Robert Waley Cohen and from 1949 to 1984 Alderman of the London district of Portsoken Ward. 1955/56 he was sheriff, 1960/61 subsequently Lord Mayor of the city. From 1949 until his death, Waley-Cohen was a lieutenant in the Commission of Lieutenancy of London.

In 1957 he was promoted to Knight Bachelor , in 1961 Hereditary Baronet , of Honymead in the County of Somerset. Waley-Cohen was a member of the College Committee of University College London (1953-1980), its treasurer (1962-1970), then vice-chairman (1970) and from 1971 chairman.

Marriage and offspring

From his 1943 marriage to the Hon.Joyce Constance Ina Nathan, daughter of Harry Nathan, 1st Baron Nathan , he had four children:
