Bernardo Carvalho
Bernardo Carvalho (* 1960 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian author and journalist .
Life
Carvalho was editor of the essay series Folhetim and correspondent for Folha de São Paulo in New York and Paris. His works have been translated into twelve languages. In 2009 Carvalho participated in the literary festival Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty .
He lives in Higienópolis, a district of São Paulo, where Jens Jessen visited him for the 2013 Frankfurt Book Fair. Jessen called him "one of the great storytelling talents of Brazil".
Literary prizes
Bernardo Carvalho has won numerous literary prizes. For Nine Nights , his first publication in German, he received the two most prestigious literary prizes in Brazil: Machado des Assis and Jabuti. For Mongólia he received the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte's prize for the best novel (Prêmio APCA) in 2003, the Prêmio Jabuti for the best novel in 2004 and 2014 and was a finalist at the 2004 Prêmio Portugal Telecom de Literatura .
