Bernat Nadal i Ginard

Bernat Nadal i Ginard (born March 14, 1942 in Artà ) is a Spanish medic.

Life

He was born on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca . Bernat Nadal i Ginard studied medicine at the University of Barcelona and graduated in 1965. In Mexico he specialized as a cardiologist from 1968 to 1971 . In 1972 he moved to the USA and received a PhD in biology from Yale University . From 1975 to 1981 he was a professor at the Albert Einstein Medical College in New York . In 1982 he became director of pediatric cardiology at Harvard University Hospital . From 1986 to 1995 he directed a research program at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His department works in the field of congenital heart defects. He worked in particular on the stem cells of the heart muscle , which should be used for self-healing after a heart attack . In 1993 he was proposed for the Nobel Prize for Medicine .
