Bernd Koberling

Bernd Koberling (born November 4, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German painter of the Neue Wilden .

Life

Koberling completed an apprenticeship as a cook from 1955 to 1958 and practiced this profession until 1968. From 1958 to 1960 he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin with Max Kaus . Together with Karl Horst Hödicke , he was a member of the Vision group in 1961. A stay in England followed from 1961 to 1963. From 1969 to 1970 he stayed in Rome as a fellow at the Villa Massimo . He then stayed in Cologne until 1974. From 1976 to 1981 he was visiting professor in Hamburg , Düsseldorf and Berlin . This was followed by a professorship at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1981 to 1988on. Since 1988 he has been a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts .

In May 2012 Koberling was appointed as a new member of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin, whose election he accepted. Active membership presupposes that the artist actively participates in the tasks of the academy so that he will continue to be present in the academy in the future.

In 2017 Bernd Koberling was honored with a retrospective exhibition with pictures from 1963 to 2017 in the Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art in Duisburg.

Koberling lives and works in Berlin and Iceland.
