Bernd Luz (born May 20, 1966 in Rottweil ) is a contemporary German visual artist and communication designer who, in his works, strikes a balancing act between free art and commissioned work and between the abstract and the representational.

Life

Luz began his artistic activity in his youth. He achieved z. B. first place at the Swiss Youth Film Festival in 1986. Luz first studied photo design for a year at a private art school in Ravensburg and completed an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic specializing in surgery. He completed his art studies in communication design at the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences and finished this in 1993 as a graduate designer. He then went into business for himself in Neuhausen ob Eck in the Tuttlingen district and founded the design studio revoLUZion. He has been running a second studio since 2003 in Zurich and later in Schaffhausen , Switzerland. Some of his logos and designs can be found in international design books. Since 2013 he has devoted himself intensively to his self-named abstract pop art movement, which combines abstract images and pop art , and has gained an international reputation.

Luz's works are mostly media mix works peppered with image quotations, which are devoted to different subject complexes. The representation corresponds to the principle of collage in the isolation and rearrangement of the elements . The excerpt as a reference to complex relationships is staged in such a way that entire stories can be seen from the picture surface. “I implement what touches me,” Bernd Luz is quoted as saying. This means that it cannot be classified into defined categories.

In a newer facet in the artist's work, the color that accompanied the media mix becomes the main actor here. By renouncing any representational allusion and figure, Luz leaves himself and the picture surface entirely to the interplay of color, structure and light. Instead of the tightly interwoven network of motifs in the collages, there is a pure illusionistic color space, mostly dominated by a color that sets the tone. The approach is not conceptual, but mood-driven. Instead of creating a decipherable image of reality, the reality of the picture is reflected by painting.

One focus of his art is the integration and implementation of motifs from the automotive world. The works of art are related to historical events and vehicles in automotive racing . A reflection of the past with the expression and the view from today. The works are exhibited in various automobile museums.
