Bernd Müller (born April 2, 1949 ) is a former East Berlin soccer player. For 1. FC Union Berlin played in the top division of the GDR football association , the Oberliga .

Athletic career

As a junior player, Müller came to 1. FC Union Berlin in 1966 from the East Berlin company sports association (BSG) Motor Köpenick . After he had become eligible to play in the men's area in 1967, he was first used in the 2nd team, which played in the third-rate East Berlin district league. Bernd Müller made his debut in the first team on November 30, 1969 in the round of 16 for the GDR soccer cup Union Berlin - FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (0: 6). He had to wait until August 29, 1970 for his first league game with the 1st team. In the game of the 2nd round of the top division season 1970/71 Hallescher FC Chemie - Union Berlin (3-1) he was substituted on in the 70th minute. At the end of the season he had already become a pillar of the team with 18 appearances in 26 played point games. In the 1971/72 season things went less well for Müller, because he was only used three times in the first half of the series. Only from the 19th match day he came back to the league team and played through to the end of the season. The 1972/73 season was the highlight of Müller's football career, because he was used in all 26 league point games and in all five cup games. While he mostly played left defender in the first half of the season, he was attacking several times in the second half of the season because the previous regular striker Hans-Joachim Samm was eliminated at the end of the year.

At the age of just 24, Bernd Müller left 1. FC Union Berlin in the summer of 1973. Within three seasons he had played 55 league games and scored one goal. He also played nine times in the GDR soccer cup, where he was twice successful with goals. Then Müller played for Motor Hennigsdorf in the Potsdam district league, for EAB Lichtenberg 47 in the second-rate GDR league and until 1977 back in the Berlin district league for rotation .
