Bernd Marquart

Bernd Marquart (born May 11, 1958 in Rottweil ) is a German jazz trumpeter .

Marquart had piano lessons at the age of seven and switched to the trumpet at the age of fourteen. At the age of seventeen he founded his first jazz band. From 1979 to 1981 he was a member of Biréli Lagrène's band and can be heard on his album Routes To Django (1980). Then he worked with his own groups in combo format and in Joe Viera's sextet . In 1983 he performed in New York City with Jaco Pastorius .

From 1987 he studied music with a major in trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart , before moving to Western Illinois University in 1989 .

With Jan Jankeje he founded the Jazz Jokers in 1988 , which debuted in the same year with a CD of the same name and toured internationally and played at festivals ( Edinburgh Jazz Festival , 1990; Illinois Festival 1991). Since 1991 he has played frequently with his wife, the singer Ellen Peters, including on productions with the German Pops Orchestra under Bernd Ruf .

Marquart, who is based on bebop in his playing , works as a lecturer in various workshops for jazz trumpeters.
