Bernd Pichler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernd Pichler (born December 26, 1969 ) is a German biomedical engineer and expert in preclinical and molecular imaging as well as biomedical technology for imaging processes . He holds the Chair for Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy and Director of the Werner Siemens Imaging Center at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . He is the Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen and a member of the Board of Directors of the University Hospital of Tübingen .

Life

Pichler grew up in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Bavaria. After graduating from high school, he studied electrical engineering and biomedical engineering at the Technical University of Munich . After graduating, he worked as a doctoral student at the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine at the Technical University of Munich and at the Max Planck Institute for Physics (Werner Heisenberg Institute). After receiving his doctorate ( Dr. rer. Nat. ) In 2001, he initially worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine. In March 2003, he moved to the University of California, Davis , as Assistant Research Professor , and worked in the Biomedical Engineering Department.

In January 2005, Pichler became head of the laboratory for preclinical imaging and imaging technology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he successfully completed his habilitation in 2007. Since 2008 he has been a professor at the University of Tübingen and since January 2011 he has also held the chair for preclinical imaging and radiopharmacy at the Department of Radiology, which is part of the University Hospital of Tübingen . His professorship is financed by the Werner Siemens Foundation , which is based in Switzerland.

In May 2020, Pichler was elected Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

research

Pichler researches primarily on the development of new imaging methods for preclinical basic research and clinical application. He was significantly involved in the development of an imaging process that combines positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) in one device (PET / MR). The laboratory headed by Pichler focuses primarily on basic research on new diagnostic and treatment methods in the fields of oncology , neurology , cardiology and immunology . Pichler is the owner and applicant of numerous patents on integrated PET / MR scanners and radioactive tracers .
