Bernd Schabbing

Bernd Schabbing (* 1970 in Münster ) is a German professor of business administration at the International School of Management (ISM) in Dortmund and a management consultant.

life and career

Schabbing studied cultural studies, history, philosophy and psychology at the Universities of Münster and Hamburg, where he completed his master's degree in 1995 and his doctorate in 2000 with a topic focused on impact history (press) and business (opera and concert management). In parallel to his doctorate, he completed the diploma course in cultural management at the Hamburg University of Music from 1995 to 1998 and graduated with a thesis on the marketing of new (music) technologies.

Before his appointment at ISM, he was a full-time lecturer and head of the tourism and culture department at the British-accredited Heidelberg International Business Academy (now the HIM University of Applied Sciences ) from 2009 to 2011 . Until 2009, he held various specialist and management positions in tourist city and regional marketing as well as in business development and location marketing. From 1993 to 1999 he worked on a research project on the interaction between technological and social developments at the Chair of Modern Social, Economic and Technical History at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.

Projects

Schabbing has also been working as a management consultant since 2008 and has implemented various projects here. From March 2017 to February 2020, after the death of the former managing director Markus Stern, the certified quality coach worked part- time for the Bad Karlshafen Gesellschaft für Lage und Marketing as an interim managing director. Previously he had u. a. a feasibility study for a new hotel in Bad Karlshafen (2015), a district and retail marketing concept for Dinslaken-Hiesfeld (2015), the development of a conversion concept as CLUB / SEL for a trade fair company in the Ruhr area (2014), a concept and measures to optimize added value in the operational area of Dortmund Airport (2013), a concept development for an extension (multifunctional center) of the Radisson BLU Frankfurt / Main (2012), a customer survey and segmentation for the Rheingau Music Festival (2010/2011), the strategic realignment of the brine spa Bad Karlshafen (2010/2011) as well as a concept for the conversion of a 15,000 square meter hospital building as a conference center for Europe's largest yoga seminar house "Haus Yoga Vidya" in Bad Meinberg (2008/2009).

Schabbing also advises tourism companies on an ongoing basis, gives lectures at international conferences and publishes specialist articles.
