The Bern Chamber Choir is a mixed Swiss choir that has existed for 80 years and has played a key role in shaping the musical image of the city of Bern . The emphasis is on the performance of demanding sacred choral music .

history

The Bern Chamber Choir was founded in the summer of 1940 by Fritz Indermühle. Demanding a cappella choral works were on the program from the start. From 1974 to 2012 Jörg Ewald Dähler was artistic director of the Bern Chamber Choir. Since then, the choir has set itself the goal of maintaining and performing demanding sacred choral music. That does not rule out that from time to time secular music - such as B. The "Seasons" by Joseph Haydn - is on the program.

Present / artistic profile

The Bern Chamber Choir currently consists of 50 - 60 singers. Jörg Ritter has been the artistic director since 2012, and he regularly performs with the choir with challenging works of sacred choral music. The performances and concerts on Good Friday and the third Sunday in Advent have been cornerstones of Bern's musical life for years. The choir has not only made a name for itself through appearances in the Bern Minster , but also at festivals in Germany and abroad - for example in Paris or Berlin - which is underpinned by radio and CD recordings.
