Bernhard Bömke

Bernhard Bömke (born July 31, 1921 in Buer ; † March 4, 2002 in Westerholt (Herten) ) was a German writer, painter and librarian. Bömke became known to a wider public through his westerns, which he published under the pseudonyms Dan Yelling, Larry Lash, King Keene or LS Ranger.

From 1950 to 1976 Bömke wrote about 300 western novels, initially so-called loan books, then booklet novels. Many of his novels were later published in abbreviated form as notebooks. A strange quirk he shared with many other Kelter novelists was inventing entirely un-American names to use in his westerns.

When the Mülbüsch publishing house, for which he wrote, ceased operations in 1976 due to the owner's age, Bömke also ended his career as a writer and from then on devoted himself to painting and worked in the city library until his retirement.
