Bernhard Conrads (born September 12, 1944 in Bamberg ) is a German association functionary and until 2009 was federal manager of the federal association for life support . He is an expert on inclusion and the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities .

Career

In 1966 Conrads began studying economics, specializing in business administration, at the University of Würzburg, which he completed in 1970 with a degree in business administration. From 1970 to 1974 he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Sales Management at the University of Würzburg, where he did his doctorate. rer. pole.

In 1974 he started working as a management consultant at Managementpartner GmbH Stuttgart. In 1979 he moved to the Federal Association of Lebenshilfe.

In 1991, Bernhard Conrads played a key role in founding Special Olympics Germany , the sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities. As federal manager of the federal association for life support, he was one of the founding members. Subsequently, Conrads accompanied Special Olympics Germany as an assessor until he was elected Vice President in 2005.

From 2005 to 2017 Conrads was a member of the Presidium of Special Olympics Germany and from 2011 to November 2017 was First Vice President of SOD. According to the SOD statutes, he could not stand for election for another legislative period. At the SOD general meeting on November 25, 2017, he was made an honorary member of Special Olympics Germany.

The focus of his work as Vice President of SOD in the area of ​​association development was the implementation of the UN Disability Rights Convention with the aim of including people with intellectual disabilities, the membership and structural development of the association as well as fundraising.

Conrads was a co-initiator and member of the organizing committee of the 1st State Games of Special Olympics Hessen 2015 in Marburg.

As President of the Organizing Committee of the Special Olympics Willingen 2017, the National Winter Games for people with intellectual disabilities, Conrads was largely responsible for the success of this event with more than 3,000 participants.

In 2017 he initiated the SOD exhibition and campaign project “Sport inklusiv: We are all winners!” With the German Sport & Olympia Museum in Cologne, in the implementation of which he was involved in a leading position.

Personal

Bernhard Conrads is married to Doris Conrads, a painter and lecturer at the Institute for Graphics and Painting at the Philipps University of Marburg . The couple has two grown sons and lives in Marburg, Hessen.
