Marburg beacon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marburg beacon for social civil rights has been awarded annually since 2005 by the university town of Marburg and the Marburg Humanist Union . The undoped award is intended to honor personalities who have worked in an exemplary manner for the equal participation of all people in social life regardless of their social, health or economic position. The award is intended to honor the fundamental advocacy of the rights of disadvantaged people. The jury attaches great importance to the outstanding efforts of the nominees to encourage disadvantaged people to exercise their rights with confidence.

The university town of Marburg and the Humanist Union Marburg announce the award every year on the International Day of Human Rights on December 10th. If possible, those proposed should come from Hesse or at least have some connection to Marburg. With the award, the city and the Humanist Union want to encourage society not to understand the equality of all people as a "distant utopia", but to actively participate in its realization in everyday life.
