Bernhard Glaeser

Bernhard Glaeser (born February 11, 1941 in Chemnitz ) is a German social scientist and professor of human ecology . He is chairman of the German Society for Human Ecology .

Glaeser, who studied economics and philosophy at the universities of Heidelberg, Munich and Hamburg, was project manager at the International Institute for Environment and Society at the Berlin Science Center for Social Research from 1976 and stayed at the Science Center even after it was closed. He researches questions of human-environment interaction. Since the mid-1990s, his focus has been on the sustainable development of coasts and the relationship between their inhabitants and nature. In 1993 he completed his habilitation in the social sciences at the Free University of Berlin .

Memberships and teaching

Bernhard Glaeser was Professor of Human Ecology at the University of Gothenburg from 1995 to 1995 .

In 2005 he was appointed to the international Scientific Steering Committee (SCC) of LOICZ (Land Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone) . In the same year he was appointed by the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture of the Republic of Austria (the “ Ministry of the Future”) as an expert for the project area “Cultural Landscape Research”. In addition, the Swiss National Science Foundation appointed him as a reviewer for the Humanities and Social Sciences department. At the University of Klagenfurt (Austria) he teaches in the "Virtual College of Social Economics" with a focus on environmental sciences .
