Bernhard Christoph Steckmest (* 1846 in Germany ; † 1926 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian architect born in Germany . He is considered to be a representative of neo-Gothic and historicism , which were particularly influenced by the so-called "Hannoverskolen". He was one of the most important architects of construction in the late 18th century. He has designed several famous buildings, most notably in Oslo.

After completing his training at the Hanover University in 1866, he began working as an assistant to the architects Henrik Thrap-Meyer , Christian Christie and Paul Due . From 1870 to 1890 he jointly ran an architecture office with Due under the name Due & Steckmest . During this very productive time, it was Steckmest's job to create the drawings, while Paul Due had administrative responsibility and supervised construction. From 1890 he had his own office in Christiania .

From 1904 to 1912 Steckmest was a member of Christiania's building commission. During these years he did not create much of his own.
