Bernhard Stieler (born July 21, 1934 in Bad Homburg ; † October 25, 2010 ) was a German engineer.

Life

After graduating from the Kaiser-Friedrich-Schule in Bad Homburg, Bernhard Stieler studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the 1960s . There he became a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. in 1964 . Nassovia Darmstadt in the CV . In 1966 he was at the Department of aviation engineering of the Technical University of Darmstadt with the work in the atmosphere contribute to the dynamic stability of the orbital motion of aircraft in the climb and descent, taking into account the variable with altitude air density doctorate .

Stieler worked for the Institute for Aircraft Control of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Braunschweig in the area of inertial navigation systems . As an honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart at the Institute for Applied and Experimental Mechanics, he worked in collaboration with Helmut W. Sorg in the field of inertial measurement technology and integrated navigation . Stieler was involved in researching the use of gyroscopes (especially optical and micro-mechanical gyroscopes) to control robots and truss structures in space.
