Bernhard von Meschede

Bernhard von Meschede (* in the 15th century; † November 10, 1503 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and cathedral dean in Münster .

Life

Bernhard von Meschede came from the Westphalian noble family von Meschede and was the son of Gottfried von Meschede zu Alme (1380–1466) and his wife Regula von Ense. His brother Kracht was canon of Münster from 1442 to 1454 . His great-nephew Dietrich held the office of canon of Münster from 1512 to 1545. After his ordination as a priest, Bernhard can first be proven as a canon on February 25, 1454. In 1463 he was archdeacon at Altlünen and later also in Bocholt. From 1467 to 1485 he held the office of cathedral bursar. In this function he was responsible for managing the business operations in the cathedral chapter . From 1486 he was head of the cathedral school as cathedral scholaster . Bernhard was dean of the cathedral from late summer 1494. He was responsible for the leadership of the cathedral chapter. Bernhard was also a member of the Domkaland. The epitaph for him and his brother Kracht can be found in Münster Cathedral .
