Saint Bernard (Franciscan)

St. Bernard (Polish Bernardyni ) is the name of the “brown” Franciscan observant (OFM) in use in Poland and the areas of Lithuania , Belarus and the Ukraine, which were Polish before 1772 .

The name refers to the leading head of the observance movement , St. Bernardine of Siena , and came from the oldest Polish observant monastery St. Bernardine, founded in 1453 in the royal city of Krakow .
