Bernhardus Sasse

Bernhardus Sasse or Bernhard von Sachsen , Bernardus de Saxonia († before February 21, 1539 or 1549) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster and a Cistercian monk in the Marienfeld monastery .

Life

Sasse was an illegitimate son of Duke Johann IV of Saxony-Lauenburg (* 1439; † 1507). His eldest brother Erich II von Sachsen-Lauenburg was later Bishop of Hildesheim .

Bernhardus entered the Benedictine order and on March 23, 1519 was appointed auxiliary bishop in Münster and titular bishop of Acre .

After resigning from his post as auxiliary bishop, he entered the Cistercian monastery in Marienfeld. Here he was Confessarius and confessor of the Cistercian Abbey of Gravenhorst . He died before February 21, 1539 and was buried in Gravenhorst.
