Bernt Hagtvet

Bernt Hagtvet (born March 5, 1946 in Oslo ) is a leading Norwegian political scientist and researcher on totalitarianism.

He studied at Yale University in the USA. Between 1983 and 1994 he was head of research at the Chr. Michelsens Institute. Since 1994 he has been Professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo . Hagtvet is particularly concerned with totalitarian ideologies such as fascism and communism, as well as human rights issues . In a discourse on the communist parties in Norway, he always criticizes the failure to come to terms with communist crimes. Politically, he is considered to be left-wing liberal.
