Bert de Kort

Gijsbert "Bert" de Kort (born September 4, 1942 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch musician of traditional jazz ( cornet ).

De Kort started playing cornet at the age of 15. He began his professional career in the US Forces clubs in France and Germany. Around 1967 he was part of the Stork Town Dixie Kids and then played in the USA. Recommended by trumpeter Ray Map, he was a member of the Dutch Swing College Band from 1968 . There he saw Teddy Wilson and other American guest soloists, with whom he is also documented on records.

In August 1977 he decided to found the Jazzland jazz club in Amsterdam and left the band in which Ray Kaart took his place again. Until the 1980s, de Kort led a high-quality Dixieland band with the new edition of the Dixieland Pipers , which also included clarinetist Jan Morks . With this group he has released several albums, one as Dutch Dixieland Pipers together with the French Stride pianist François Rilhac . In 1999 he returned to the Dutch Swing College Band , of which he was a member until 2011. He is currently touring Europe in other constellations.
