The Berta Çayı (also Berta Suyu ; formerly Merehevi Suyu ) is a right tributary of the Çoruh in the Artvin Province in northeastern Turkey .

course

The Berta Çayı rises in the Karçal Mountains . It flows in an arc, first to the north, then to the east and finally to the south. The Meydancık Deresi flows into the river from the left. 10 km west of the city of Şavşat , the Şavşat Deresi also meets the Berta Çayı from the left. This flows 26 km in a west-southwest direction before flowing into the eastern end of the Deriner reservoir . The D010 trunk road (Şavşat – Artvin) runs along the lower course of the river. The mean discharge of the Berta Çayı is 27 m³ / s.

use

Until now, the middle reaches of the Berta Çayı was a popular white water body for canoeists. In recent years, however, more and more hydropower plants have been built along the river.
