Annik Saxegaard (born May 21, 1905 in Stavanger , Norway , † August 16, 1990 in Kiel ), known under the pseudonyms Berte Bratt , Nina Nord or Ulla Scherenhof , was a writer . The pseudonym “Scherenhof” is a translation of the name “Saxegaard” (norw. Sax = scissors, gaard = court).

Life

Annik Saxegaard's mother studied music, her father was an engineer, a profession that some of her later male characters in fiction would also take up. The family also had an older sister, but Saxegaard had no contact with her in later years.

The family later moved to Oslo , where Saxegaard graduated from high school in 1925. At first she tried her hand as an actress, but was already earning money writing at that time, and she also worked on the radio. From 1937 to 1946 she was married to the railway worker Christian Mohn.

When her parents divorced, Saxegaard moved with her mother to mountains . Here she ran a radio show, gave lectures, wrote advertising texts and eventually began writing animal stories for toddlers. After this became a success, she first published a novel. Then she began to write girls' books, which made her very popular, especially in Germany. Under the pseudonym Berte Bratt , she became one of the most widely read authors of books for girls in Germany, with a total circulation of over 5 million copies. Some of her novels were initially published as Lore novels under the pseudonym Nina Nord , and she also used the pseudonym Ulla Scherenhof (Gina series).

In 1958 she moved to Germany. From then on she wrote her books almost exclusively in German. She lived in Kiel with a German friend and lived there until her death on August 16, 1990.

Berte Bratt, whose first book was published by Franz Schneider Verlag in 1937 , made a name for herself on the radio as the director of fairy tales and entertainment programs shortly after graduating from high school. A little later, her first book hit appeared: "My daughter Lisbeth" - a girl's book. Since then, as she herself said, she had written incessantly. About eighty books - mostly girls' books - were published by the time she died. Fifty of these titles were published in German, initially as translations, and later she wrote in German herself. The titles that have appeared as "tailor's books" are particularly well known.
