Bertha and Carl Benz Prize

The Bertha and Carl Benz Prize is awarded every two years by the city of Mannheim .

The award was launched in 2011, the 125th anniversary of the patent for the first motor car . It is reminiscent of the inventor Carl Benz , who designed the first automobile in Mannheim, and his wife Bertha Benz , who took the first long-distance journey. The prize honors people, groups or organizations who work to improve mobility - especially for more environmentally friendly, social or simpler mobility. It is endowed with 10,000 euros.

2019: Loujain al-Hathloul , Saudi women's rights activist who campaigned for the lifting of the driving ban for women in Saudi Arabia
