Bertha Schneyer , b. Trebsdorf (born September 8, 1830 in Gotha ; † March 8, 1912 ibid), was a benefactor of the Thuringian city of Gotha.

When her mother died of emaciation at the age of 30 , Bertha Trebsdorf was only one year old. At the age of 27 she married the businessman Friedrich Wilhelm Schneyer. She had four children with him, of whom only the son Richard, born in 1863, grew up, two children were stillborn and one daughter was only 11 months old. Richard took over the business as a trained authorized signatory from his father, who died early, and moved to Heidelberg in 1903 , where he died in 1908 at the age of 45.

The widow and now childless Bertha Schneyer devoted herself as before to charitable activities, e.g. B. until 1902 in the women's training association. After her son's death on October 27, 1908, she donated his former house and garden property at Bürgeraue 4 (today the southern corner house on Gadollastrasse, with a Froebel kindergarten), because she wanted to give her hometown "proof of loyal devotion". She had determined the net income for "charitable purposes in the interests of the residents of Gotha", for example, "primarily a public park should be created, in which the less well-off population can find relaxation after the burden of the day's work". In addition, the existing facilities (afforestation and parks in the northwest and west of the city) should be expanded and supplemented.

About other activities, e.g. B. Their commitment to the women of the villages around Gotha or their "high foundations for poor relief" is unfortunately very little known.

In her will, the well-deserved benefactor bequeathed the city of Gotha an amount of 16,000 marks. She died in Gotha at the age of 81. In her honor, a street in the Siebleben district was named Bertha-Schneyer-Straße . Her tomb is in the honor grove in the main cemetery .
