Jagoba Arrasate Elustondo (born April 22, 1978 in Berriatua ) is a former Spanish football player and current coach. Playing as an amateur player, he later coached the first division team of Real Sociedad San Sebastián from 2013 to 2014 . Since 2018 he has been the coach of the second division CA Osasuna .
Player career
Jagoba Arrasate was born on April 22, 1978 in Berriatua, a city in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country . In his youth he played for the nationally successful club Real Sociedad San Sebastián , where he was not taken over into the adult team. From 1997 the striker ran for the second team of the SD Eibar , but where he could not recommend himself for appearances in the first team. Also in the episode Arrasate only played for regional amateur clubs. Successively these were SD Lemona , SD Beasain , CD Elgóibar , Club Portugalete and SD Amorebieta . Jagoba Arrasate ended his playing career in 2007 at the age of just 29 years old wearing Amorebieta.
Coaching career
After retiring in 2007, Jagoba Arrasate initially worked as a coach in his hometown Berriatua for the local football club. After this one-year commitment, Arrasate, who was just 30 years old, became the new coach of CD Elgóibar in 2008, where he had also been a player for two years. With the fourth division he reached third and fourth place in the Tercera División in two years .
In the summer of 2010, Jagoba Arrasate joined Real Sociedad San Sebastián , one of the most successful clubs in the Basque Country . Arrasate initially worked as a youth coach in Donostia-San Sebastián for two years before he became assistant to the club's professional team under French coach Philippe Montanier . As assistant to Montanier, Arrasate was involved in reaching fourth place in the table and thus qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in the 2012/13 season . After Montanier then moved to his French homeland to Stade Rennes , Jagoba Arrasate was his successor as coach of Real Sociedad. He was able to build on the successful work of his predecessor and led his team in the Primera División 2013/14 to seventh place and thus again into the European Cup. In the Champions League they were eliminated in the group stage behind Manchester United , Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Schachtar Donezk . The following year, however, things went less well for Real Sociedad under Jagoba Arrasate. After an acceptable start, the team slipped into a severe earnings crisis in autumn 2014, which finally ended with Arrasate's dismissal on November 2, 2014. At that point, Real Sociedad was on a relegation zone. Arrasate's successor was David Moyes .
In the summer of 2015 Jagoba Arrasate took over the vacant coaching position at the second division CD Numancia , succeeding Juan Antonio Anquela .
