Berthold Jäger

Berthold Jäger (* 1948 in Roßbach ) is a German historian and librarian .

Life

Jäger studied history, political science and education in Giessen and worked from 1977 to 1982 as a research assistant at the Historical Institute of Giessen University. In 1982 he became involved with the work “The ecclesiastical principality of Fulda in the early modern period: sovereignty, estates and princely administration. A Contribution to the Constitutional and Administrative History of Small Territories of the Old Kingdom ”to the Dr. phil. PhD. After training for the higher service at academic libraries (legal clerkship) at the University Library of Marburg (1983) and at the Frankfurt Library School (1984), he came to the library of the Episcopal Seminary in Fulda (main library of the theological faculty) in 1984 , which he has held since 1994 until 2011 as director. His specialist librarianship focused on researching the history of the Fulda library, the historical holdings in the Fulda libraries and their preservation and preservation. He was also a long-time member of the Preservation Commission of the former German Library Institute .

In 1988 Jäger was appointed a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse and has been a member of the main committee since 1995. Initially a member of the board of directors (since 1996), he was deputy chairman of the Fuldaer Geschichtsverein e. V. From 1992 to 2006 he worked on the board of directors of the Society for Middle Rhine Church History and was editor of the Fulda diocese part and co-editor of the “ Archive for Middle Rhine Church History ” until 1999 . From 2000 to 2011 he was also co-editor of the yearbook “Church Books and Libraries”.
