Berthold Vogl

Berthold Vogl (born May 29, 1706 in Pfarrkirchen near Bad Hall , † April 25, 1771 in Kremsmünster Abbey ) was an Austrian Benedictine , abbot and theologian .

Life

Berthold Vogl grew up in a parish incorporated into the monastery and attended the monastery high school. On October 7, 1725, he took the monk's vows in the monastery and then studied theology at the University of Salzburg , where he was ordained a priest and held his primary school on November 25, 1731 . After being a cooperator in Ried for a few years , he became professor of philosophy in Salzburg , and in 1744 of dogmatics and moral theology . As a professor of philosophy, he tried to acquaint his audience with the philosophy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Christian Wolff in addition to the Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy .

At the Philosophical Faculty in Salzburg he was dean from 1737–1738; In 1744 he was elected rector of the University of Salzburg and re-elected every three years until 1756. He gave up this office when he was elected Abbot of Kremsmünster on February 22, 1759 .
