Marina City (2012)
Bertrand Goldberg (born July 17, 1913 in Chicago ; † October 8, 1997 there ) was an American architect.
His best-known work is the Marina City complex in Chicago with the tallest residential buildings in the world when completed.
Goldberg studied at the Cambridge School of Landscape Architecture (now part of Harvard University ) and, at the age of 18, went to Germany in 1932 to study at the Bauhaus . He worked in the office of the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and, due to his Jewish origins, had to flee the National Socialists to Paris in 1933, from where he returned to Chicago. In 1937 he opened his own architecture office in Chicago.
His estate is archived in the Art Institute of Chicago .
