history
In 1927 the “Municipal Commercial Vocational School” was founded in Osnabrück, sponsored by the City of Osnabrück. In 1938 the name was changed to “Städtische Handelslehranstalt” with the departments of commercial vocational school, two-year commercial school and higher commercial school. By the end of the 1960s, the school had grown to almost 5,000 students and also included the school forms of technical college - business - and the advanced-level grammar school - economic type (previously business school). This made it necessary to divide the school in 1971. This resulted in the “Städtische Handelslehranstalt am Schölerberg” and the “Städtische Handelslehranstalt am Pottgraben”, named after the respective school location in the city. The commercial schools were renamed in 1978 to “Vocational Schools”, so that the school is now called “Vocational Schools of the City of Osnabrück am Schölerberg in Osnabrück” (short: BBS am Schölerberg).
European school
The BBS am Schölerberg were one of the first vocational schools in the Weser-Ems administrative region to be awarded the “ European School ” award in 2002 . Against the background of 20 years of initiation, organization, support and evaluation of international exchange measures, this title was awarded by the Ministry of Culture in Hanover. In 2015 the school got the right to use the title “European School in Lower Saxony” for further years. As part of these activities, partnerships are maintained with schools in the Netherlands, Poland, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Sweden and France.
