The professional community of lay catechists (religious teachers) of the Archdiocese of Vienna (in short: BG Vienna / Austria) was founded in 1962 by Cardinal King with the aim of the laity - catechists founded to serve.

The BG is an independent association under ecclesiastical law and is responsible to its members and the respective Archbishop of Vienna . It is the only professional community established by the Archbishop in the Archdiocese of Vienna , to which every religious teacher belongs due to the missio canonica received .

The BG collects an annual membership fee (currently 10 euros) to fund ongoing business. The general assembly determines the amount of the contribution. The record of the financial management is kept by the cashier.

The tasks of the BG and their performance

  • Information, advice and promotion of communication of the RL
  • Personal conversations
  • BG events for group councils, liaison teachers and committed colleagues
  • Information at inspection conferences
  • Service law events
  • Information events for students of the KPH Vienna
  • Information through the media: by e-mail, on the BG homepage http://www.bgwien.at , on the BG page in the school authority announcements “from us for you”, regular information through the BG newspaper, which appears twice a year "Burning glass"
  • Assistance in the formation of regional or school-type-specific groups of RL and in the formation of working groups
  • Promotion of Spirituality
  • Offer of BG church services , e.g. B. Design of the bishop's mass for RL in the cathedral, masses in the school year
  • Retreats, short retreats
  • Confession and pronunciation options
  • BG consultant: currently Sr. Katharina Deifel and Franz Ochenbauer
  • Representation and protection of the interests of the RL vis-à-vis the education authority and the specialist inspectors
  • Provision of experienced RL or other suitable persons as trust teachers (e.g. "interventions" in the school office or at the FI)
  • Participation in the drafting of contracts
  • Contacts with officials and institutions in the interests of RL or religious instruction (e.g. jour fixe in the school office)
  • Periodic contacts with the director of the Institute for Further Education
  • Recommendation when appointing RL in special functions (e.g. specialist inspectors)
  • Preparation of proposals for the election or nomination of religion teachers in institutions or committees to which religion teachers must belong (e.g. disciplinary and performance assessment committees)
  • Delegation to diocesan and interdiocesan committees for religious pedagogues Areas (e.g. textbook conferences, interdiocesan BG)
  • Care for further education in cooperation with KPH Vienna, the institute for further education, the school office and other further education institutions
  • Care for the resource and quality assurance of religious education and the reputation of the RL

The structure of the BG

The BG - Vienna / Lower Austria is formed from the entirety of all members.

The General Assembly:

Chair

  • The chairperson represents the BG externally and manages the business. He / she is elected by the general assembly from among the members of the group council for a period of 3 years.

  • The deputy chairperson represents the chairperson in the event that he / she is unable to attend.
  • Current deputy chairperson: Mag. Gottfried Hofmann.

Group council

  • Management body of the BG
  • Composition: The number of members from the APS and secondary schools area should reflect the relationship between the RLs active in the two areas. Each type of school should be represented by at least two members.
  • Tasks: He discusses and assesses RL and RU relevant topics, maintains contact with all committees that concern the RL and its activities, intervenes in the case of problems that affect the RL and RU at the responsible offices (especially in the internal church area) Members of the performance assessment and disciplinary committee and its higher commissions, decides on social support for individual RL, supports the chairman and his deputy in the performance of their duties, entrusts individual members of the GR with special tasks at the request of the chairman, e.g. B. Treasurer and secretary, must receive work reports from the chairman and his deputy, prepare the general assembly and decide after deliberation by resolution with a simple majority.
  • The group council has also appointed Johannes Idinger as consultant for service and salary law.
