The Best Secret GmbH , a subsidiary of Schuster & Borenstein GmbH, is an online retailer for designer goods, based in Dornach near Munich . BestSecret operates a sales platform in the form of a closed shopping community and carries over 3,000 different designer brands .

history

The beginnings of Schustermann & Borenstein go back to 1924. Since then, the company has developed into an international fashion group. The traditional family company is run by the third generation. Best Secret GmbH was founded in 2007 as a subsidiary of Schustermann & Borenstein GmbH.

Business model

The principle of a closed shopping community is behind the business model . The offers are only available to registered members. These registered members have access to a selection of permanently reduced designer goods. In order to maintain this pricing policy and still protect the exclusivity of the brands, access to the online shop is limited to 250,000 members. A future user must be recommended by an existing member in order to gain access.

internationalization

The company is active in Germany, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland / Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom and Cyprus.

In addition, Best Secret GmbH took over the Swiss online fashion retailer FashionFriends on April 1, 2016.

Investors

In 2012 Schustermann & Borenstein sold two thirds of its company shares to the Axa Private Equity Group (now Ardian), which included company shares in Best Secret GmbH. The remaining shares remained in the family hands of Daniel Schustermann, Emil Schustermann, Benno Borenstein and Daniel Borenstein, who continue to manage the operative business.

In 2016, Ardian sold the Schustermann & Borenstein and Best Secret company shares to Permira . The company value was between 700 and 750 million euros.

Logistics locations

BestSecret moved to a new central warehouse in Poing near Munich in 2015 . The size of the hall is 28,800 square meters and has a capacity for up to 4 million items of clothing.

Cargo container hardwood beetle incident

Major alarm in Poing when two freight containers from Asia were provided with an agent against the longhorn beetle.

In 2016 there was an incident in which nine employees were injured and another 51 had to seek medical treatment. The cause came from two containers from China, which were provided with a means to avoid the importation of the Asian longhorn beetle . Employees complained about air pollution that was causing irritation to the eyes and airways. The goods in question were sent back. The warehouse was put back into operation the following day. Daniel Schustermann promised to introduce stricter security measures in the future to protect the employees.
