The Kleinenbremen visitor mine is a mine in the Kleinenbremen district of the city of Porta Westfalica , which was opened in May 1988 and is located in a part of the disused iron ore mine in the Weser Mountains . Until the 1960s -years iron ore was in the pit nor Barbara ore mining mined .

The museum

The visitors' mine was driven into the mine by a diesel railcar from Mindener Kreisbahnen until 2014 . In the mine, visitors are taken with the mine train to the most interesting places, which are then presented in more detail. Entrance with the “museum railway” has not been possible since 2014 for financial reasons. The train was sold.

The hard working conditions of the miners are also presented. A larger lake has formed underground, which is known as the "Blue Lagoon" and which scuba divers were allowed to dive from 2009 to 2018.

In the “Museum of Mining and Geological History”, which belongs to the visitor mine, it is shown how mining and the working conditions of miners have developed over time.

Award

The Wohlverwahrt iron ore mine was designated a national geotope in 2006 and has thus been included in the list of the most important geotopes in Germany.

Transport links

The connection of the museum to the Minden museum railway was not possible for a long time due to damage to the superstructure on the route between Minden and Kleinenbremen. Traffic was resumed in 2018.
