The Bethmannpark is a 3.1 hectare park in Frankfurt am Main . The park is located in a triangle between Friedberger Landstrasse , Berger Strasse and Mauerweg in the eastern part of the Nordend district , outside the ramparts . The name of the park is derived from the Frankfurt Bethmann family .

history

In 1783 Johann Philipp Bethmann acquired a garden “in front of the gate”, the Friedberger Tor , which was part of the Frankfurt city fortifications at that time , and built a rococo-style garden house in it . The park had a number of famous visitors, including King Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1803 . of Prussia, in 1813 Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte , in 1815 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and in 1863, on the occasion of the Frankfurt Princely Day , Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary .

The park has been redesigned several times according to the latest fashion (rococo, English garden , historicism ). In 1941 it became the property of the city of Frankfurt. In 1953 it was converted into a show and teaching garden, as a "practical guide" for flower and plant lovers. The park has been a listed building since 1976. In 1989 a Chinese garden , the Garden of Heavenly Peace , was built in the southwestern part .

Orangery

The orangery in Bethmannpark was built in 1925 as a camellia house by the Bethmann family. Part of the building was destroyed in World War II and then rebuilt. The attached greenhouses and side buildings were demolished during the renovation in 2018-2020.
